SPECTRUM – 88 SCOTT TORONTO

CRYSTALINE GROWTH. ECONOMIC GROWTH.

Category

Interior Design

Concert Properties invested heavily in 88 Scott – a new development in downtown Toronto. The tower is a mix of residential, retail and office spaces - a micro economy in itself. Art is an attractor – be it increased footfall AKA consumers, or people wanting to live and work in the development because of the art piece. The sculpture generates revenue. We needed to provide the visual nectar to attract the busy bees.

Solution

The sculpture couldn't be static. Rather it had to iterate and undulate – flowing through the space in a series of synchronised moves. Crystaline growth offered an expansive design system. We ran the data and mapped out multiple growing forms. Once we found the balance of mass, each facet had to be precisely cut and attached using a custom-made mechanism. The dichromatic acrylic delivered an infinite and ever-evolving display of reflective and refractive colour.
